Dr. Becky Usry is a Sociologist who works with victims of interpersonal violence. Becky's first area of
expertise was sex trafficking, starting when she opened one of the nation's first shelters for victims of
trafficking, in California, in 1980. The subjugation of people who have disabilities became familiar when
victims often proved to have disabilities, such as traumatic brain injuries, caused by inhumane treatment.
Later, the Usrys worked with self-advocacy groups, as several family members have disabilities. Child abuse
has always figured into Becky's work, because victims of sex traffickers almost always have a long history
of childhood molestation and other types of abuse. Dr. Usry added domestic violence to her field when she
took a job at a domestic violence shelter in 2002 in her home state of Alaska, specifically to learn more
about the relationship between sex trafficking and domestic violence.
She has written two books about her work. The first, Sisterhood of the Night, (New Horizon Press, 1995)
is available in hard cover. The second, Interpersonal Violence - The Four Legs of the Beast, is an ebook in
Adobe format, with printout capability at ebookmall.com.
